The Task of Finding the Right Shampoo and Conditioner Set

What's your wash routine? How often do you wash your hair? What products do you use?

Washing your hair is very important, and I'll tell you why. We have hair follicles that need to be awaken to continue functioning and promoting hair growth. That means we need products to help clean our scalp while we massage it and wake up our nervous system to encourage it's work. When you're washing your hair, there are few things you should consider such as the harsh chemicals used in the shampoos and conditioners. Will it make your hair brittle or feeling great after your wash session? Will it help your split ends or further harm them? Is it tested with animals? Because see I can't do products that are animal tested. I know shampoos have a history of acting harsh to your hair, further damaging it and not being very helpful to the scalp. These days, the competition is high with many brands perfecting their products to give you the care you need. There are even shampoos that add certain vitamins to help with the outside of your hair care. (I totally hope I'm making sense)

I personally use Dove shampoo and conditioner, it's absolutely amazing for my loc journey. My scalp feels great after a wash, I have little to no dandruff after my wash, and my hair smells wonderful. I use two kinds of shampoo from Dove, it's the cocoanut and hydration as well as the thickness recovery and anti-dandruff shampoo. It's not too harsh and moisturizes my scalp keeping it feeling fresh. I'm a person who suffers from Seborrheic dermatitis, so it's important for me to treat my scalp, wash regularly, every two weeks in the winter, and roughly every week in the summer to keep my scalp clean without further irritation. I also use oils (and rose water) to hydrate my scalp, I take vitamin D, and Biotin vitamins, and I drink a lot of water. I used to wash my hair with Head and Shoulders. Now while it was good for controlling and even completely eliminating dandruff, it was very rough on my scalp. It burned my scalp so badly, I dreaded my washing sessions. It left my locs so dry I needed to oil my hair every night. Yes, you've read that right, every night. I immediately switched to Dove.

Currently, my wash sessions are quite lengthy. For wash days where I'm not retwisting my locs, I first do a rice rinse. I boil my rice (preferably Jasmine rice from the farmers market, imported from Thailand). I add black caster oil, the lavender kind for added shine and great smell. After it boils, I don't actually cook the rice, I let it boil enough to have the rice nutrients in the water, (you'll see it, if you try this). I then turn the fire off and allow the rice rinse to cool down before I begin adding it to containers to set in overnight. The next day, I drain the rice from the containers, saving the water only, then I pour the rice rinse over my entire head and put my shower cap on to let it set for a half hour. I wash my hair during my showering sessions as it's easier to wash, I rinse my hair after 30 minutes and begin adding my shampoo washing and massaging my roots first and then I work my way down to the end of my locs. I use the anti-dandruff first, rinse, and then I apply the cocoanut and hydration shampoo. I thoroughly rinse the shampoo out, further applying the cocoanut conditioner from roots to ends before thoroughly rinsing out. That's just a little tip for hair care in case you want to try it.

I also just read that it's also important for us to wash our hair so that we are washing away pollution. Pollution is one of many causes of hair loss (this includes cigarette smoking). I did not know that, but it's certainly good to know now. So just know, that your scalp isn't the only area that should be washed, your ends count as well!

But I say all of that to say, if you're looking for shampoo and conditioner that may work best for you, but you're not sure where to start, here's a shorter list I've put together based on information I've collected.

Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner from Bellisso (Biotin is good for the inside and out. It has a history of promoting healthy hair.)

Pure Nature Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner (Argan oil is known to promote shine and strength so I highly recommend this. I use Argan oil any chance I get, very hard to find in local beauty supply stores. This one is definitely worth trying.)

First Botany Tree Tea Shampoo & Conditioner (Tree tea oil is actually really good! I used it for many years on my hair and skin and honestly, I'm looking to by the oil very soon, this one is also hard to find locally.)

Pura D'Or Anti-Thinning Shampoo & Conditioner (Honest opinion, I don't necessarily believe shampoo can repair or reverse thinning, however, it may prevent further thinning. Though, I have read that certain products are being developed to help repair or reverse hair damage so this may be one of them that doctors have been raving about. Given the reviews, it's certainly worth a try.)

Argan Oil Shampoo, Conditioner, & Morgina Oil by CHI  (Now see, I just talked about Argan oil and look what I found! LOL. I just HAD to put this one on the list.)

There are many shampoos and conditioner brands to consider when you're making a choice, but what's the harm in getting a bit of guidance from someone who may be able to help? I hope you've found a few of these selections helpful and even if you don't pick any of these products, don't be shy! Comment below and tell me your experience with shampoos and conditioners. What works for you? Let me know!

Thanks for reading! Cheers to living healthier and happier.

The Evolution of Rose Water

How much have you heard about rose water?

Rose water is becoming very popular in aiding the health of hair. I can give you a bit of my knowledge when it comes to my experience with rose water. I have heard before that rose water is great for hair, skin, and nails. Non-alcoholic rose water is typically a better choice in using for your hair, skin, and nails. Rose water is said to be a natural base to help moisture your hair, skin, and nails without having an oily effect.

The bottom of our hair is in fact, dead. All nutrients when it comes to hair growth, must come from inside the body. Drinking plenty of water, eating healthy, and trying to remain stress-free is highly likely to contribute to your growth and health care. Vitamins also help which we'll tackle in another post.

With all that being said, taking care of your dead hair is also important (well at least the dead hair that happens to be attached to your head). By not hydrating your hair or adding a few natural oils, using the right shampoo and conditioner to keep it moist, can and will cause breakage. Your ends may split and the next thing you know, you're in dyer need of a hair cut which could then turn into a big chop. So, how can you help hydrate your hair? Rose water with a trim every six weeks (and when I say trim, I mean an inch or less, depending on how healthy your ends are - your hairdresser should want to care for your hair and be open and honest). I can't tell you how many hair stylists I've been to, who would tell me I need a trim and I'd left the salon with half of my hair either gone, or one side longer than the other. I still paid, I didn't want any trouble, I just never went back.

Back to the rose water, though, because now I feel like I'm rambling again. LOL.... Rose water is becoming very popular. While some use rose water for their hair, others use it as a toner for their face, as it's good for acne, for their nails in an attempt to strengthen them. Here are a couple of suggestions of rose water.

I use Well's Rose water for my hair. This one is more water based. I like this one because it's not oily and it gave a nice mist that I was looking for when I sprayed my hair. It also smells awesome.

But there's also Heritage which is more so oil based but it has 5* reviews and it's affordable if you're seeking to simply test it out and see if it works for you.

No matter the brand of rose water you choose, feel free to share your experience with me and leave a comment. Have you used rose water before? What was your experience? Would you recommend it to others? If so, what brand would you recommend?

What are Hair Toppers?

Hair toppers are a game-changer when it comes to achieving effortless volume, but what exactly are they and how can they transform your hair?,

What are the Benefits of Hair Toppers?

Hair toppers offer a multitude of benefits that go beyond just creating effortless volume. Whether you're looking to add thickness to your hair, cover up thinning or bald spots, or simply switch up your hairstyle, hair toppers can be a game-changer in transforming your overall look.

One of the key advantages of hair toppers is their versatility. They come in various styles, lengths, and colors, allowing you to find the perfect match for your natural hair. Whether you have straight, wavy, or curly hair, there's a hair topper out there that can seamlessly blend with your own locks, enhancing your natural beauty.

Another benefit of hair toppers is their ability to boost your self-confidence. Dealing with hair loss or thinning can be emotionally challenging for many individuals. Hair toppers provide a solution that allows you to regain control over your appearance, helping you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. With a hair topper that seamlessly integrates with your natural hair, you can confidently step out into the world feeling like the best version of yourself.

Hair toppers also offer a practical advantage by providing extra coverage for thinning or bald spots. Instead of resorting to expensive and invasive hair loss solutions, hair toppers offer a non-surgical alternative. They effortlessly cover any areas of concern, giving your hair a fuller, healthier look without the need for any harsh chemicals or procedures.

Additionally, hair toppers are incredibly easy to use and maintain. Unlike other hair enhancement methods, they require minimal effort to apply and style. With a simple clip or attachment system, you can effortlessly secure the hair topper in place and achieve instant volume and coverage. Maintenance is also a breeze, with most hair toppers requiring just a gentle wash and occasional styling to keep them looking their best.

The benefits of hair toppers extend far beyond just effortless volume. Not only do they provide versatility, boost self-confidence, offer practical coverage, and require minimal upkeep, but they also give you the freedom to choose the perfect hair topper to suit your natural hair. With these advantages in mind, let's dive into the next section on how to choose the right hair topper for your individual needs.

How Can You Choose the Right Hair Topper for Your Natural Hair?

The benefits of hair toppers extend far beyond just effortless volume. Not only do they provide versatility, boost self-confidence, offer practical coverage, and require minimal upkeep, but they also give you the freedom to choose the perfect hair topper to suit your natural hair. With these advantages in mind, let's dive into the next section on how to choose the right hair topper for your individual needs.

Choosing the right hair topper for your natural hair is crucial to achieving a seamless and natural look. The first step in this process is determining the type of hair topper that will best complement your existing hair. Consider the texture, length, and color of your natural hair, and look for a hair topper that closely matches these characteristics. Opting for a hair topper that blends seamlessly with your hair will result in a more natural and undetectable appearance.

Another important aspect to consider is the base of the hair topper. The base is the part of the hairpiece that lies against your scalp. It's essential to choose a base that matches your scalp color and texture to ensure a realistic look. Additionally, consider your hair loss pattern and the areas you want to address with the hair topper. Different base types, such as lace, monofilament, or silk, offer varying levels of breathability, comfort, and natural movement. Understanding these options will help you make an informed decision.

Furthermore, the size and shape of the hair topper are important factors to consider. Measure the area of your scalp that you want to cover and ensure the hair topper you choose fits securely and comfortably in that specific area. Pay attention to the length and volume of the hair topper as well, making sure it aligns with your desired style and overall look. Experiment with different sizes and shapes to find the best fit for you.

Lastly, take into account your lifestyle and personal preferences. Are you looking for a hair topper that allows for versatile styling options? Do you prefer a topper that can be worn while exercising or swimming? Consider these factors when choosing the right hair topper for your needs. It's important that it seamlessly integrates into your daily routine and enhances your lifestyle rather than creating any unnecessary limitations.

By carefully considering these factors and understanding your individual needs, you can confidently choose the perfect hair topper to seamlessly blend with your natural hair. With a well-chosen hair topper, you'll be ready to move on to the next section and discover styling tips that will help you make the most of your voluminous and versatile hair.

What Are Some Styling Tips for Hair Toppers?

Consider These Styling Tips for Hair Toppers to Maximize Your Look

When it comes to styling your hair topper, there are a few key tips to keep in mind in order to achieve a flawless and effortless look. Whether you're going for a casual everyday style or a glamorous updo for a special occasion, these styling tips will help you make the most of your hair topper.

First and foremost, it's important to match the texture and color of your hair topper to your natural hair. This will ensure a seamless blend and a natural-looking finish. If your hair has a slight wave or curl, opt for a topper with a similar texture to avoid any noticeable discrepancies. Similarly, be sure to choose a hair topper that matches your hair color perfectly, whether that's a bold shade or a more subtle hue.

Another important factor to consider when styling your hair topper is the type of hairstyle you want to achieve. If you're looking for a topper that allows for versatile styling options, consider opting for one with a monofilament base. This type of base allows for the hair to be parted in any direction, giving you the freedom to experiment with different hairstyles and looks. On the other hand, if you prefer a topper that can withstand physical activities like exercising or swimming, choose one with a secure and durable attachment method, such as clips or tape.

Furthermore, it's crucial to take into account your lifestyle and personal preferences. Are you someone who loves experimenting with different hairstyles on a daily basis? If so, look for a topper that offers a range of styling options and can be easily manipulated with heat styling tools. On the other hand, if you prefer a low-maintenance routine, opt for a topper that requires minimal styling and can be effortlessly integrated into your everyday routine.

Lastly, don't forget to consider the overall shape and volume of your hair topper. If you're looking to add volume to thin or fine hair, opt for a topper with some added height or lift. For those with thicker hair, a topper with a more natural volume will blend seamlessly and create a harmonious look. Experiment with different styling techniques, such as teasing or backcombing, to achieve the desired volume and shape.

By carefully considering these factors and understanding your individual needs, you can confidently choose the perfect hair topper to seamlessly blend with your natural hair. With a well-chosen hair topper, you'll be ready to move on to the next section and discover how to maintain and care for your voluminous and versatile hair, ensuring it always looks its best.,

How Can You Maintain and Care for Hair Toppers?

With a well-chosen hair topper that perfectly blends with your natural hair, you'll be ready to move on to the next phase: maintaining and caring for your voluminous and versatile hair. After all, the key to keeping your hair topper in pristine condition lies in proper upkeep, so you can confidently wear it time and time again.

One of the most important aspects of maintaining your hair topper is regular brushing. Using a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically designed for hairpieces, gently detangle any knots or snarls. Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid causing any unnecessary damage to the hair fibers.

When it comes to washing your hair topper, it's crucial to proceed with care. Begin by filling a basin or sink with lukewarm water and a mild sulfate-free shampoo. Immerse the topper in the soapy water and gently swish it around. Avoid rubbing or agitating the hair to prevent tangling or matting. Rinse the topper thoroughly with cool water until all the shampoo is removed.

After washing, it's time to condition your hair topper. Apply a small amount of conditioner to the hair, focusing primarily on the mid-lengths and ends. Avoid applying conditioner directly to the base of the topper, as this can cause it to become greasy or heavy. Let the conditioner sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Once your hair topper is clean and conditioned, gently pat it dry with a towel to remove excess water. Avoid wringing or twisting the hair, as this can lead to damage or loss of shape. Instead, carefully blot the hair to remove as much moisture as possible.

To maintain the style and shape of your hair topper, it's important to store it properly when not in use. Lay it flat or hang it on a wig stand to help preserve its form. Avoid storing it in a cramped or tight space, as this can cause the hair fibers to become tangled or misshapen.

Lastly, consider the use of heat styling tools on your hair topper. While some toppers are heat-resistant, it's always best to use caution and avoid excessive heat. If you do choose to use heat styling tools, be sure to apply a heat protectant spray beforehand and use low to medium heat settings to prevent damage.

By maintaining and caring for your hair topper with these tips, you can ensure it always looks its best and remains a versatile and voluminous addition to your hair routine.
